Juvéderm® Ultra Plus

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Carnegie Hill and Flatiron, NY

Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that can reduce the prominence of facial aging by adding natural-looking volume to your facial profile. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is a thicker version of Juvéderm® Ultra. This version is used to correct more severe facial wrinkles, deep nasolabial folds, and more pronounced marionette lines, while also filling in hollows around the cheeks. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is thicker than Belotero®, Restylane®, and Juvéderm® Ultra. It’s meant to be injected deeper into the skin than the lighter dermal fillers for more pronounced correction. In many cases, a combination of two or more dermal filler brands applied to different areas can be most effective for optimal facial rejuvenation.

Procedure

Similar to Juvéderm® Ultra, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is a hyaluronic acid filler that smooths the complexion by filling fine lines, wrinkles, and deep facial creases. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is injected into the mid and deep layers of the face, allowing patients to see noticeable improvements over larger areas. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is better suited for larger areas, such as the cheeks and forehead, while Juvéderm® Ultra is thinner, allowing it to better treat wrinkles around the eyes, lips, and smaller wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is found naturally in the human body. In the human body, hyaluronic acid plays a huge role in skin health, wound healing, and bone strength. When used as a cosmetic treatment, hyaluronic acid reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus also contains lidocaine, allowing for the procedure to be quick, easy, and virtually painless.

Benefits

  • Provides Great Volume Over a Larger Area
  • Fills Deep Wrinkles
  • Can Be Used for a Liquid Facelift

Safety

Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is FDA-approved and safe for use. If you are allergic or sensitive to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, you should not receive Juvéderm® Ultra Plus injections. Patients with severe allergies, multiple allergies, or a history of anaphylaxis should not receive Juvéderm Ultra Plus. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus should not be administered directly following deep chemical peels, dermabrasion, or laser treatments. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, you should speak with your doctor before undergoing any dermal filler treatment. Patients who have had a previous allergic reaction to dermal fillers should share this information with their doctor. Anyone who has recently used blood thinners or has a bleeding disorder should avoid cosmetic injections.

When considering Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, it is important to choose a skilled injector who has experience administering cosmetic fillers, as well as a strong understanding of the science behind hyaluronic acid fillers. At Dermatology, Laser & Surgery of Carnegie Hill & Flatiron, our dermatologists and physician assistants are skilled and experienced at administering dermal fillers and helping patients achieve their anti-aging goals.

Results

The lasting power of Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is individual to every patient. How long Juvéderm® Ultra Plus lasts depends on how many treatments the patient has had, the degree of aging, metabolism, and overall health, in addition to many other factors. Typically, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus lasts anywhere between 6-9 months. As patients continue with their treatments, they will find that they require less filler and can go longer between appointments.

To maximize the results of Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, it is recommended that patients take great care with following the aftercare instructions provided by their dermatologist. Although the treatment is non-invasive and doesn’t require downtime, patients should avoid rigorous exercise to minimize any bruising or swelling around the injection sites. Patients should apply ice to soothe the treatment area and avoid excessive sun exposure.

Recovery

The typical injection time for the Juvéderm® Ultra Plus treatment can take anywhere from 15-40 minutes. Using a fine needle, our dermatologists can ensure that patients remain comfortable throughout the procedure. Most patients will see immediate results; however, it can take about a week for the hyaluronic acid to settle in the skin, allowing patients to see full results.

Following Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, patients may experience redness, bruising, or swelling surrounding their injection sites. However, these side effects are normal and will subside in the days after the procedure. In rare cases, some patients may develop an allergic reaction to Juvéderm® Ultra Plus. If this occurs, you should contact your doctor immediately.
