Xeomin
Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Carnegie Hill and Flatiron, NY

Xeomin® is an FDA-approved neurotoxin that is much like Botox®. Xeomin® is injected into the subdermal layer of skin to limit repetitive facial movements by blocking the nerve impulses that are needed for contraction. Xeomin® is designed to relax the facial muscles and decrease movement, allowing patients to smooth existing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as prevent new signs of aging from surfacing. Xeomin® is the purest form of neurotoxin, providing a non-surgical solution to common signs of facial aging. Xeomin® can be used to treat forehead creases and crow’s feet, as well as areas around the mouth, chin, nose, jaw, and neck.
Procedure
As we age, the repetition of facial expressions, such as scowling, laughing, or squinting your eyes, will leave a lasting mark on your face. Much like Botox® Cosmetic, Xeomin® works by limiting movement to areas of the face that are prone to developing wrinkles due to excess movement. By blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscles, Xeomin® relaxes the muscles and provides anti-aging effects. This non-surgical treatment can provide patients with rejuvenating results that don’t require extensive downtime or recovery periods.
Although Xeomin® is seemingly very similar to Botox® Cosmetic, there are significant differences between these two neurotoxins. The main difference has to do with the formulation. Xeomin® is a “naked” neurotoxin, which means that Xeomin® contains only a single ingredient: botulinum toxin A. This means patients have a lower chance of developing resistance that can limit its desired effects. Botox® includes various protective proteins clustered around the active muscle.
Benefits
- Smooths the Facial Skin
- Targets Moderate-to-Severe Lines & Wrinkles

Safety
Neurotoxins, such as Xeomin® and Botox®, are prescription injectables that have proven to be successful in decreasing common signs of facial aging. Xeomin® is FDA-approved and deemed safe for use for individuals over the age of 18. Xeomin® is not recommended for use by women who are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Additionally, individuals who have had any side effects caused by botulinum toxin in the past should refrain from receiving Xeomin®.
Xeomin® should only be injected by experienced doctors. If administered incorrectly, Xeomin® may lead to adverse side effects. At Dermatology, Laser & Surgery of Carnegie Hill, our board-certified dermatologists and physician assistants have extensive experience administering Xeomin® injections. The placement of your Xeomin® injection is important, as precise placement is necessary to avoid side effects. Our dermatologists specialize in Xeomin® treatments. A certified provider can advise you on your treatment and help determine if Xeomin® is right for you.
Results
Xeomin® injections take approximately 10-20 minutes to administer. After receiving Xeomin® injections, some patients may see results immediately. However, each person will react to the filler differently and results will become apparent at differing paces. Within 3-4 days after receiving your treatment, you will begin to notice results. In most cases, full results will become visible within a month of the treatment. Results will vary per patient.
Much like Botox, Xeomin® will require multiple treatments to maintain the anti-aging effects. Depending on the patient, Xeomin® results can last anywhere from 3-6 months. Also, depending on the severity of the patient’s problem areas, as well as their overall lifestyle and skin health, the lasting power of Xeomin® will vary. When it comes to maximizing your Xeomin® results, studies have shown that dermal filler results may last longer when used alongside a neurotoxin. Our dermatologists can discuss which dermal fillers and cosmetic injectables can best achieve your procedure goals. Xeomin® injections are highly-customizable and touched up on an as-needed basis.
Recovery
Patients can usually resume their activities immediately following Xeomin® treatment. However, it is recommended that patients take it easy for the rest of the day after their procedure, as well as the following day. To maximize longevity, patients should follow aftercare instructions carefully. You may experience mild redness, bruising, or swelling for a few days following your procedure, however, this is normal.
