Botox
Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Carnegie Hill and Flatiron, NY

Botulinum toxin type A (BOTOX®) is a minimally invasive cosmetic injectable that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles. Over time, the contraction of facial muscles can wear on the skin, causing deep creases to form in areas like the forehead, between the brows, or around the eyes. Neuromodulators are distributed under several different brand names, including Dysport®, Jeuveau®, Xeomin®, Letybo®, and Daxxify®.

About Botox
Botox is a minimally invasive injectable that works by blocking the signals between nerves and muscles, resulting in temporary muscle relaxation. (1) This effect allows Botox to smooth out dynamic wrinkles, which are lines caused by repeated muscle movements, such as frowning or smiling. Common areas treated with Botox include the forehead, crow’s feet (the lines around the eyes), and ‘11’ lines between the eyebrows.
Over the years, Botox has become one of the most popular injectables, allowing individuals to address signs of aging safely and effectively. Patients are often drawn to Botox because it offers impactful results without extensive downtime, making it an appealing option for those seeking aesthetic rejuvenation.
Benefits
Botox is a popular treatment because of its track record for producing reliable benefits for patients, including:
- Quick Treatment Times: Treatment typically lasts about 10 to 15 minutes, allowing even the busiest of patients to easily undergo this treatment. There is also no downtime associated, allowing patients to return to most of their normal activities almost immediately.
- Non-Surgical Approach: No incisions are required, minimizing risks related to surgical procedures and eliminating extensive recovery times.
- Effective Wrinkle Reduction and Prevention: Botox significantly smooths dynamic wrinkles while simultaneously preventing new ones from forming. Many consider this a form of ‘prejuvenation,’ or a form of self-care that younger patients can engage in proactively to prevent worse lines and wrinkles from developing.
- Long-Lasting Results: Results usually last 3-4 months, with effects being prolonged with regular follow-up appointments. (2) This duration can differ based on which neuromodulator is used—Daxxify is often considered the longest-lasting, with some patients experiencing results for up to 5-6 months.
- Boosted Confidence: Addressing cosmetic concerns and insecurities can enhance one’s self-esteem and personal satisfaction with their appearance.
Ideal Candidates
Botox appeals to a wide variety of potential candidates. Ideal candidates for Botox treatments are typically adults who exhibit visual signs of aging, such as creases, fine lines, and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows. Candidates should be in overall good health. Additionally, patients should hold realistic expectations about what they can achieve with Botox. Whether or not you are an ideal candidate for this injectable will be determined during your personal consultation at the office of your choice.

Preparation
We will provide each patient with a clear list of preparatory instructions. Preparation is minimal and straightforward, but should still be followed to ensure the best outcome. Patients may be advised to avoid using certain medications or supplements, especially those with blood-thinning properties, prior to treatments. Patients should also do their best to avoid excessive UV exposure leading up to their treatment and use proper sun protection when going outside. On the day of their treatment, patients should arrive with a clean face, free of makeup and skincare products.
Procedure
One of the primary reasons so many people seek Botox treatment is because of how quick the procedure is. Some patients even undergo this treatment during their lunch break, returning to work immediately afterward. During your Botox treatment, you will recline comfortably in a private area. The treatment area will be cleaned and sterilized. We will then use a very fine needle to inject small amounts of Botox directly into specific muscles, with the entire process typically lasting no longer than 15 minutes.
Recovery
Recovery after Botox injections is minimal, and most patients return to their normal routines immediately. Any necessary recovery instructions will be given to you by our team. Some of these guidelines may include instructions to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after injection. Patients might also be asked to avoid facials and other skin treatments for the first couple of weeks. It is advised to continuously monitor the injection sites for any unusual swelling or redness, which typically resolves quickly.
Results

The initial effects of Botox may be visible within a few days, with optimal results typically occurring approximately 1 to 2 weeks after the procedure. Patients can expect smoother skin in the treated areas, with a decrease in the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. Many patients appreciate a more rejuvenated appearance and report an increased sense of confidence.
The results of Botox can provide a noticeable enhancement in facial aesthetics for about 3-4 months before patients are recommended to return for re-injection.
Corresponding Procedures
Many procedures can be combined with Botox to further revitalize your appearance. A popular treatment that can be easily added to your regimen is dermal fillers. This minimally invasive, injectable treatment can help restore volume to areas of the face experiencing deflation or hollowing. Fillers are extremely versatile and can be applied to multiple areas, such as the lips, chin, nose, or cheekbones. Injections can also be used to further target and reduce the appearance of facial aging.

FAQ
How long do the results of Botox last?
Results from Botox typically last between three to four months, before patients are recommended for reinjection. However, this can vary slightly depending on individual factors such as metabolism, activity level, and the treatment area. It also depends on which neuromodulator is being used; Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, Letybo, and Daxxify all have different durations. Daxxify is the longest-lasting, with some patients seeing results for as long as 5-6 months. With consistent use, some patients notice longer-lasting results over time as the treated muscles become trained to relax.
Is Botox Safe?
Botox injections are FDA-approved for a variety of uses. When administered by a qualified professional, Botox is a very safe and efficacious treatment. Side effects are rare but may include mild bruising, swelling, or temporary muscle weakness near the injection site. Choosing a licensed and experienced provider significantly reduces risks.
Can I get Botox while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Pregnant and breastfeeding patients are not recommended for Botox. Candidates interested in this procedure are encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider about alternative treatments or to wait until they are finished with pregnancy and breastfeeding. Although there is no definitive evidence showing harm, Botox has not been sufficiently studied in these populations to be deemed safe.
Is there anything I should avoid after receiving my Botox treatment?
Yes. You should avoid lying down or bending down for about 4 hours and engaging in vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours following your treatment. It’s also recommended to avoid massaging or rubbing the treated area, as this can cause the product to migrate and potentially affect unintended areas. Additionally, avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (unless prescribed by your doctor) before and after treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.
How soon will I see results after my Botox treatment?
Most patients begin to notice visible results within 3 to 5 days, with full effects typically developing within 7 to 14 days after treatment.
